Local Website Advertising?
I hear the words Local SEO and Local Website Advertising thrown around so many times these days. The way web companies define local advertising is bamboozling even to me and I’ve been in the industry for 20+ years. Plus I’ve worked in Local Television advertising for ten years and Local publishing for four, so the words local and advertising always prick my ears up.
Also having lived in Wigan most of my life and working with Wigan businesses as I do, I’m doubly interested when I notice Web companies from all over world masquerading as local Wigan businesses, ranking high for Wigan based searches. It worries me because I care that local businesses aren’t being scammed in anyway let alone at the first point of contact. So here’s a couple of points that may help local businesses get things started at least.
Pick up the phone
If you’re a Wigan business owner and you’re looking for Local Website Advertising the first thing to do is pick up the phone and speak to the people behind the website. At least then you know you are working with someone local. If need be meet up with them, nowt like seeing the whites of someone’s eyes to know if they mean what they say. There’s many many local website designers, SEO specialist and website marketing companies in and around Wigan all of which I’m sure will try their best to offer the very best value for money.
Paid advertising isn’t needed to go local.
Many people will tell you that pay per click advertising is essential to be found in local search, it’s not. Write content about what you do and tailor it to the locality that you want to hit and you’re sure to pick up visits from that local area. Fail to write this type of content and the likelihood is you’ll need to buy local pay per click advertising.
Reliable local content writing.
Many local business rely on my maintenance and content writing plans to target local audiences. With the right analysis of the search data linked to your website the ideas for new content are many and varied, some a little wild. Take for instance a chauffeur company in Liverpool. Their site ranks well for the usual and obvious keywords, however in search it didn’t rank well for the search term “shoffer in Liverpool” … yes I know, that’s the wrong spelling of the word chauffeur. All the same the search term ‘shoffer in Liverpool’ had at good few hundred searches a month going untapped. And that’s the point with organic search engine content writing you write for the audience, if people are miss spelling words related to your business you need to reach out and grab them.
The chauffeur company in question picked up more visits to their website and indeed more business. All by simply understanding the search data and reaching out to their potential customer base.
So if you need a hand understanding your customers and think that paid for advertising is the only way to reach a local audience, think again and give me a call … I speak Wiganish and really do know what the weather is like over Mesnes Park 🙂
