An easy way to start doing your own SEO
Doing your own SEO sounds scary right? Sounds a bit daunting, complex or mumbo jumbo.
Here’s one easy way to start doing your own SEO.
Talk to your customers via your blog is a great way of starting doing your own SEO.
Write at least something every couple of weeks or every month. If you can’t write yourself then get someone to do it for you, preferably someone who can write for customers with an eye on search engines too.
Still struggling with content and blogging, then hire me. I work with lots of companies writing content. From fencing to kitchen companies, interior design to organic porridge manufacturers. Take a look at The Big Book for some examples of blog content I write.
Blogging is quite simply the easiest way of making a contribution to doing your own SEO. Firstly blogging communicates with customers and search engines that your business is still alive. How else does Google or Bing know your business is still active if you don’t have any new content?
It’s sad that local businesses don’t take this easy step into doing their own SEO. Local businesses in Wigan, St Helens, Preston and the North West in general don’t use a blog at all. They miss out in so many ways, lack of visits to their website, lack of conversions, lower visitor loyalty, lower brand recall.
Admittedly simply writing blog content isn’t the be all and end all when it comes to SEO, but trust me writing small blog posts is much better than doing nothing. At least search engines can see your website is still breathing!
Here are 3 reasons why writing on your blog is so essential
- Google likes new content – fact. All search engines like new and relevant content, that’s another fact. If you haven’t added anything to your website in months or years then Google will mark you down in search. Your competitors may have added content to their site and Google will mark them up in search, above you.
- A blog page can be a new entry point to your website. Writing good relevant search engine friendly content adds another entry point to your website. It goes without saying if you didn’t have the blog content they wouldn’t have even arrived at your site.
- New content says you’re interested. Imagine this, a customer enters your business and all you are able to talk about is the same old stuff you did one, two or three years ago. Would you instil in them you are excited to be in your industry and passionate about what you do? So what happens when someone can’t see new content? They think you aren’t interested, new content adds that interest. What’s worse, if you don’t have new content Google and other search engines think you aren’t interested. Would you promote a website when someone looks like they aren’t interested?
9 tips for doing your own SEO blogging.
- Write blog posts for your potential audience.
- Use your own style.
- Keep blog posts off the main navigation route. The WN6 blog is here, but it’s not listed in the navigation.
- Talk about what you do, what you’ve done or new innovations in the industry.
- Be creative.
- Don’t assume everyone knows as much as you know, they don’t. New potential customers are coming of age everyday, just because you know what something is or does, doesn’t mean your customers do.
- Try and write in a conversational style, people will read it and search engines will know you’re serious about your content.
- DON’T EVER CUT AND PASTE FROM OTHER WEBSITES. This will hurt your website badly.
But I hate blank pages, they scare me, I never liked writing!
If you hate writing content I can help. My service is available for all types of local, national and international businesses. My job is to write decent and creative content that attracts and converts visitors.
Compared to do it yourself blogging, the role I play if you hire me is a little more in-depth. With each and every business I write for, I develop a strategy for new content based on the following key factors.
[one-half-first]
- The search terms your site should appear for.
- What search terms people use to search for you website
- Emerging search trends
- Key areas of business that need a push

- Seasonality
- Competitor analysis
- Lastly I also look at click through rates, user experience also.

Some of the content I’ve written still ranks well for the search string it’s targeted at. Still picking visitors up years down the line. So having decent and fresh content not only benefits you today with search but for years to come.
If you don’t do anything online, please write a little on your blog. That’s assuming you have a blog, if you haven’t I can help with that too.
