It’s not often you see a black and white blackbird in fact I had to wait over 40 years but now I have one living near my place of work in Standish, Nr Wigan.

It comes and visits each day with few other regular blackbirds.  It’s quite skittish in comparison to the rest of it’s mates, mainly due to the fact it stands out like a sore thumb.

Albinism and leucism is common in Blackbirds, but there are even more that are “partially albino” (e.g. white head, or white patches on the wings). Albinism is a complete lack of pigment whereas leucistic birds have weak pigmentation and appear “wishy-washy”.

This one I think is partially albino and from the other images I have seen online he is a proper good looking bird with stunning plumage.

So if you’ve never seen a black and white blackbird then until now, they do exist and one currently resides in Standish, Nr Wigan.
